We recently went on our first family vacation to Salt Lake City (3 1/2 hours away). I loved the city! we completely gave in and brought along our laptop for in the car. For those of you who haven't had the conversation/debate with Ben and I: we are against dvd players in the car. We dind't use the laptop on the way there because we didn't have an adaptor to be able to plug it into the car. We pretty much used it all the way home because we were ready to be home and Logan turned into a terror the last day and a half.
We spent a lot of time downtown just watching the water fountain play to music. We didn't end up letting the kids play in it.
While we were in Salt Lake we went to a "REAL" pet store. We had a lone pet store here, but it has recently closed its doors. The pet store prepared us for the zoo. Cora was very fascinated by the birds and squatted to get a up close view of them.

I think technology is great, even for little ones, in moderation. We didn't want to get a DVD player in our minivan, but the miles and price were right on one we found that already had a player, and there's pretty slim pickin's around here, so we went ahead and bought it. It's great for the long car rides. The kid don't watch it the whole time of course, but it definitely helps us all stay happy and sane. Glad you had a great trip. And Cora's pigtails are so cute!
I think our main thing, is that when they are older they'll miss scenery, playing the car games, and pretty much enjoying family time because they are glued to the tv.
Anyways, it was useful and we'll probably use the dvd player again but limited.
